Active Transportation COVID-19 Recovery Framework

The objective of the Council-approved Active Transportation COVID-19 Recovery Framework is to identify projects for rapid-implementation that will provide Mississauga residents with the ability to practice physical distancing while moving safely and comfortably around the City.

ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION FRAMEWORK IS HOW WE ARE “BUILDING BACK BETTER”

  • 17.9 kilometres of new bicycle lanes or separated bicycle lanes
  • This represents a 30% increase to the amount of on-road bicycle lanes in the network
  • Residents will need additional transportation options during the COVID recovery period
  • This framework is aligned with the Cycling Master Plan, Vision Zero and the Climate Change Action Plan

PRIORITIZING RAPID IMPROVEMENTS

  • Public Health – for areas of need due to COVID risk
  • Population Density
  • Personal Vehicle Ownership
  • Workplace Commute Distances under 10km

ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION 2020 CAPITAL PROGRAM

  • Multi-use trails and sidewalks
  • Highlights:
    • Derry Road MUT – completes AT corridor, continuous MUT between Ninth Line and Argentia
    • Mavis Road MUT – extends existing MUT, continuous MUT between Cantay and Winterton
    • Terry Fox Way Sidewalk – completes connection between Britannia and Matheson

NEW BICYCLE LANE INSTALLATIONS

  • Bike lane installations before the end of 2020
  • Some already in design stages
  • Convert some of the temporary lanes into long-term installations
  • Those temporary lanes not converted to long-term installations will be removed prior to the onset of winter (if not sooner)
